When designing the smart fortwo, we knew that if we conserved space under the hood by placing the engine in the rear, we could have a surprisingly spacious cabin. And we knew that by widening the base and reducing overhang, we could create a car that was fast and fun to drive.
 
On the inside, the passenger seat folds a full 90°, allowing for even more storage space, which is easily accessible via the split-section tailgate. Decisions like this are why the smart fortwo feels spacious and sporty, and why it received a prestigious Red Dot Award for Product Design.

Engineered with Mercedes-Benz, every smart must meet the strongest industry standards. The patented Tridion Safety Cell uses reinforced high-strength steel to act as a barrier between you and anything else on the road.

Steel doors with spot-welded reinforcements offer protection in the case of side-on impact, and Crosswind Assist helps you compensate for strong gusts of wind with ESP® sensors that automatically trigger your brakes.
 

Be constantly connected.

The Cross Connect app is a driver’s best friend. It’s completely free and it lets you view your trip history and driving score, with data like your average MPH, fuel consumption and more. It also enhances your ride with city guidebooks, turn-by-turn navigation, and online radio. And once you park, it saves your exact location.
 

Spacious where it matters most.

The smart fortwo was designed to act small, but feel big. By widening the base, we added stability and space, so when you sit in a smart, it has the feel of a sedan.
